About Us

In January of 2010, 22 individuals representing 16 Salmon based community service organizations met to discuss how they might work together to share resources. Since then over 30 agencies, groups and organizations have participated in Working Together trainings and/or network meetings.

By working together for the common good of the City of Salmon and Lemhi County, these groups and individuals combine their talents, energy, organizational resources, and create greater effects for the benefit of all.

Our Accomplishments

Working Together has an emphasis on just that - working together. During the two past years, participants have assisted one another in the following list of accomplishments:

  • A working transportation system/provider for community service users with a specific line item in the Lemhi County budget for mobility.
  • Shared use of the copy machine, computer, and event supplies from Salmon Arts Council.
  • Access to webinars and other trainings via Salmon Valley Stewardship.
  • Cindy Phelps assisting the Youth Employment Program (YEP) with grant proposal to Murdock Trust for funds for a building for youth programs and business operations training and employment.
  • Chuck Kempner partnering with Judy Barkley to produce a video presentation for the Sacajawea Center.
  • The IVolunteer event celebrating volunteerism and the organizations served by volunteers in the community. Over 200 residents attended!
  • Partnership with Salmon High School on the new community experience volunteer requirements to provide volunteer opportunities to high school students.
  • Training and opportunities for business development (Horizons and Salmon Valley Chamber of Commerce partnering on the REUP program Salmon Valley Stewardship and the Salmon Arts Council training on business strategies for artists and the farmers market).
  • The bear project on Main Street (Salmon Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Salmon Arts Council and Don Stamp).
  • Defining and communicating the procedures for federal agencies to donate outdated or surplus supplies and equipment (thank you SVS!).
  • Main Street Beautification project Salmon Valley Chamber of Commerce, the Youth Employment Program, the 4H leadership group and business owners/leaders.
  • The youth 4H program working with shelter dogs on obedience training.
  • Presented the Odd Fellows building project at the Idaho Rural Conference and won an IGNITE Award of $700.
  • Shared information on tax issues, grant opportunities, and community issues (school bond) through the Google group.
  • Conducted three training sessions on Strategic Planning, Building Community Philanthropy and Collaborations, Mergers & Partnerships (over 40 total attendees).
  • Initiated the exploration and development of the Lemhi Valley Community Foundation (an affiliate of the Idaho Community Foundation) that will focus on increasing philanthropic funding in the community.

In August of 2012, Working Together was awarded grant funds from the Steele Reese Foundation making this website and continued development possible!

Salmon Valley Stewardship serves as the Working Together fiscal sponsor/manager under the guidance of the Finance Committee. Laurel York Odell currently serves as the Working Together facilitator. As the facilitator, she provides partner/network member management and communications, meeting facilitation and network facilitation, meeting documentation and coordination of training sessions. Laurel has been providing technical assistance to organizations, agencies and businesses in organizational development, strategic communications, fundraising and collaborative network facilitation since 1997.
